Mission

The Message

The Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat is the only captive bear facility in the world dedicated solely to polar bears. Through exceptional animal care standards, educational programs and research partnerships, the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat is becoming an internationally respected centre for polar bears.

The focus of the facility is to provide the best alternative environment for Polar Bears. By providing both mental and physical stimulus the facility mimics the natural life cycles that would occur in the wild. We are committed to raising awareness about polar bear care, the difficulties they face due to climate change and how these changes are affecting their well-being.

Objectives

  • To provide sanctuary for orphaned cubs and captive bears
  • To encourage/deliver education programs that promote an appreciation for Polar Bears
  • To provide information and collaborate with stakeholders in research regarding behavior of captive bears and their rehabilitation.
  • Create research opportunities that raise awareness of the impacts of human activities on the environment.
  • Encourage continuing cooperation between Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat and Polar bear stakeholders.
  • To allow public to observe the bears in a natural and non invasive setting.
  • Dedicated to the sustainability of the facility and long term care facility for Polar Bears

These objectives will be accomplished through:

  • Partnerships with leading establishments in animal care
  • Partnership and participation in research and rehabilitation programs
  • Actively challenge the participation of Polar bear stakeholders
  • Highly skilled and reliable staff
  • Excellent communications and customer service staff
