Habitat - Viewing Building

viewing_building1For observers and visitors, this area is the focal point of the Habitat. Observation windows, made of five centimetres (approximately two inches) thick special glass, and one hundred eighty three centimetres by two hundred forty four centimetres (approximately six by eight feet) in size, allow bear-viewing in a number of areas. A multi-level "pit" area provides an underwater perspective as the bears cavort in their pool, and seating for visitors as they listen to their guides during the "meet the bears" times. Other large windows look out onto two natural enclosures where the bears may be taking part in stimulating enrichment exercises, relaxing, or simply enjoying themselves.

The building also provides a view into the wading pool area, and is the site of numerous educative and interesting displays, some interactive and bilingual, about polar bears, their habitat, range, and "lifestyle". Even binoculars are on hand for a really close look!
